"The sun is missing! The sun is missing!" cried the Fool. Follow the Fool's journey, solving puzzles along the way to find the missing sun.

WHY?: Phil Hannay is hosting a replay of his excellent Treasure Hunt from the Manorcon 2024 board game convention here in London, for those who couldn't make it up to Leicester for the event. Phil and I would love to see you there!

(The long-timers among you may have met Phil already; he was the person I co-ran a puzzle hunt with at the UKPA event in 2012 at Chill Factore in Manchester. Phil's been doing this for plenty of years.)

WHAT?: think roughly "three Puzzled Pints standing on each other's shoulders under a trenchcoat". The main body of the hunt is twenty puzzles, of roughly the Puzzled Pint range of difficulties, though some of them are a little shorter. There's not a lot of WPC-style logic puzzles in there, but there are a few; there are word puzzles, picture puzzles, ciphers and so on. If you're the sort of person who'd read this thread on a forum, you'd be very welcome.

HOW?: the vibe will be chill - in fact, explicitly non-competitive. Puzzled Pint rules apply: every team can request as much or as little help as they like in order to have fun however they want to; setting your expectations, we're not going to be comparing teams' performances or declaring a winner.

WHEN?: Sunday 22nd September 2024. Arrive 1:30pm-2pm, hunt starts at 2pm prompt. Plan on making a day of it; we'd expect most teams to take four or five hours to finish, and there's plenty to do at the venue once you're done.

WHO?: in a perfect world, there'd be a team of five, four or three UKPA members (including friends and family who would be very welcome) coming along. However, if there are only one or two people who want to come along and if you don't mind joining another team, I'm sure I can find a team who's looking for another member. If there's enough to form a UKPA team, you don't need a team name, but you must choose a team colour from aqua, purple, teal, red, brown, lime, black or cyan. First come, first served. (There's no significance to the colours; they're not part of a puzzle.)

WHERE?: Zombie Games Cafe and Bar, 15 Cricklewood Broadway, London NW2 3JX. (W3W: ///drain.parks.slice if you like.) There are board and console games there to play as well, but do feel free to bring your own; this is a cool place to play games before or after the hunt, and you may well like it so much that you come back afterwards. We will be playing within the downstairs room, the Upside Down; there are stairs to get there and, with apologies, no lift.

HOW TO GET THERE?: Take public transport to Brondesbury or Kilburn and then catch a bus up the Edgware Road (technically, Shoot-Up Hill) to either the Mill Lane or Skardu Road stops. (Cricklewood station is also close.) Travel by car is surprisingly practicable for London; follow signs for the A5, the back streets to either side are controlled zones but the controls don't apply on Sunday so parking shouldn't be too bad. There are several EV chargers available on the back streets.

HOW MUCH?: Free, sort of. There's no charge for the hunt itself, but the venue has a minimum spend requirement of £15/person for the event, so please plan on having a meal and a couple of drinks from the menu at https://www.zombiegamescafe.com/menu (or as advised at the cafe on the day).

WHAT TO BRING?: The sorts of things you'd bring to a Puzzled Pint, and maybe some more games or puzzles as well if you like.

RSVP: I'm going to be checking in on this thread over the next few days and hoping to finalise the extent of UKPA involvement this week. If this is your jam and you can commit to coming, please post a reply. Hopefully we'll see if there's a team's worth of interest, a person or two's worth of interest, or "this sounds cool but you really need to give people more than 13 days' notice".

HAVE YOU GOT QUESTIONS FOR US?: Feel free to reply to this thread with them and I'll get back to you ASAP.
