24hr Puzzle Championship 2012

Post by puzzlemad » Sun 07 Oct, 2012 6:47 pm

The dates for this years 24hr championship have been announced as the 9th - 11th November. I have booked my flights and it would be great to have some company from the UK puzzlers. It will be being held in Budapest.

Afraid no from me. One week earlier, it's in half-term... Insert age-appropriate swearwords here.

Oh wow, 2 Estonians among authors! I'm sure TiiT will create some sudokus ;)

The download link for the IB doesn't appear to be working... [edit: Ah! - my Anti-virus is blocking the site]

Have a browse of the Instruction Booklet; Tiit and Rauno have "Irregular Vowel Sudoku" and "Sudoku-Tapa" in there among the puzzles. Tamas Antal has some regular sudoku in his round; so do the US compilers.

There are lots of highly imaginative variants here, and the whole thing looks immensely, immensely impressive. Thanks and congratulations to all the puzzle setters, and I hope the solvers have a great time too!

Wow. All but one setter has included a sudoku or variant in their round. I stand corrected.
That's like the pre-WSC puzzle competitions, where sudoku was 'just another puzzle type'.

What Nikola and Hideaki did in past years is that they simulated the competition and blogged about it.
24HPC results are always released in detail so comparing your performance is possible. (Minus the pressure and all).
Anyone up for this?? 8-)

This tournament is starting in 1hr:15mins.
Does anybody know if it will possible to see any puzzles once it starts? Or will any results be published as they go?

Usually they're efficient with results. Last year they posted partial results as the competition takes place.
And announced the fnal results not long after it ended.

Puzzles, however, come a little later. They have to wait for all the constructors' permission and all. Based on the last two editions of 24hpc (2010,2011), expect the puzzles to be released early next year. I eagerly hope they come out faster though.

It looks like the website that Zoltan Nemeth was using does not exist any more, and so all the 2012 24HPC files are gone. I also hope someone saved local copies of them?
