Re: What is sudoku?

It's hard to define exactly which puzzles are sudoku or aren't. The limit is not clear and I think we can't write a clear definition that is valuable for each case. There are so many kind of sudoku variants; most of them are based on standard sudoku rules + constraints, what is clearly a sudoku. But...

Re: LMI November Sudoku Contest (13-14 Nov 2010)

No problem there: We can read on Indian forum: Lets not discuss scores here till the test is ON. This time, I think we are able to see all scores lower than your score in the results page. Rakesh, you are correct. After taking the test, you should be able to see your score along with all others who ...

Re: 1st UKPA Sudoku Championship

Anyway, I am awaiting verification of nationality from the two 'UK' participants who finished ahead of you - both of whom I suspect are not British at all. If, as I suspect, that is the case, then you should be quite excited! I think Mandy is from France... so it remains a single doubt for Warren.....

Re: 1st UKPA Sudoku Championship

Thank you Tom, Alan and every people who worked for this championship. Grids were perfect: really nice and very well constructed. killer sudoku, sudokurve and arrow sudoku were masterpieces ! sudokurve killed me, as a wasted lot of time, but made a mistake that I wasn't able to correct. At the end I...

Re: 1st UKPA Sudoku Championship

I have absolutely no problem with diagonal sudokus, unless they require the use of trial and error. Which reminds me something... It's not my fault if you don't overcome ALS technics  But you're right, I'll have lot of handicap: there are 3 irregular sudoku, if you consider that surplus...

(I'm happy to see that my blog is read... ) I just hope not too many people have read it before you fixed the mistake. Looking forward to this test which promises to please me - if I'm able to participate, as I'm not sure yet. Concerning the classic sudokus, will the 4 puzzles b...

Re: 1st UKPA Sudoku Championship

Fred, I see on your blog that you list the competition as "Date et heure: du 13.11.2010 au 14.11.2010" Your French readers will be one week too late - it is 6.11.2010 - 7.11.2010 (as stated in your main text). Thanks for the mention. We're expecting a big turnout. Ouuuups  sorry, I'd post abo...

Re: 1st UKPA Sudoku Championship

Tom: Thanks for updates ;)
I have another question about updated rule of sudoku islands :!:

On the updated rule, it's not mentionned that connected region doesn't contain any 2*2 block of cells. Is that an omission or is that intentional?

Re: 1st UKPA Sudoku Championship

It looks to be a fun set of grids ;) In the booklet, it seems to me that no touch sudoku has 2 solutions: 3 first rows of 2nd solution are: 453786129 789123456 126459783 (This solution is perhaps less beautiful because 123456789 are not consecutive in the rows  but it's also a solution if I...

Re: 1st UKPA Sudoku Championship

Hey, I saw the Instruction Booklet is now available on the front page! Very cool! I particularly like the design. I had a query about the rules for Surplus Sudoku when compared to the example - in the example there is a single-celled region containing a '3'. Do I take it there is a similar single c...

Re: Indian Puzzle Championship

Ullrich Voigt, who is a puzzle master, but does not (to my knowledge) participate in sudoku tournaments That's maybe why we couldn't see his score on the door! (all results are here: http://logicmastersindia.com/IPC2010/score.asp) Or perhaps the answer is there: http://www.logic-masters.de/DSM2010/...

Re: Indian Puzzle Championship

I understand your point of view. In fact, if I imagine having to organize a puzzle tournament, I see two ways to manage sudokus: 1. The sudoku is an important part of the literature on the puzzles, but since there are many sudoku tournaments, it became an "independent practice". Sudoku fans have alr...

Re: Indian Puzzle Championship

Other names who are particularly good (better than me), including Jakub Ondrousek, Gourav Korde and Fred Stalder are all further back. I'm actually what may be called a sudoku specialist, as I do almost not participate in puzzle tournaments. Very few other puzzles interest me as much as Sudoku. I p...
