Re: Contest Timings

Perhaps I should have done two 1h30 parts, with a maximum 30m break in between. That's certainly doable technically, and perhaps something to think about for next year if we place higher importance on the UKPC (and UKSC) as a qualifier in the future. If the problem is that the contest is taking too...

Re: Contest Timings

Although WPC rounds are generally less than 2.5 hours, there is often only a minimal break between two rounds in the same session - requiring intense concentration for a much longer period than 2.5 hours. I think this is an appropriate length for a qualifying test. However, with this in mind, and as...

Re: 2011 UK Sudoku Championship (11-12 June 2011)

In response to the request for feedback. Overall I really liked this contest, so good job! A nice collection of puzzles that were well tested and provided a great challenge. These are the places I thought improvements would be valuable: - I would add my voice to the people saying the classics were r...

Re: croco-puzzle

My impression is that it's getting harder to reach 1D, with all the new talent on the site. The top times of the day are now guaranteed to be excellent - even if several of the top competitors hit a fehlversuch. Watching the Tagesratings is informative: Mine has spent a couple of weeks above 1k now,...

Re: 2011 UK Sudoku Championship (11-12 June 2011)

I still don't find that very clear. Does it mean there must be a gap of length 2 between two digits that are the same, or will a gap of length 1 suffice?

Re: Contest Timings

What about running contests from Thursday afternoon until Monday morning? So that those who want to go away for a weekend can play at their convenience on Thursday afternoon/evening. This would seem to suit the maximum number of people.

Re: 2011 UK Sudoku Championship (11-12 June 2011)

But I cannot help to find a bit strange the presence of a Skyscraper, a Calcudoku and a Futoshiki in a sudoku championship. I also find this odd, since it seemed that everybody else on the UK forum (apart from me) argued strongly that these were certainly not sudoku variants! So it seems at least s...

Re: ** 2011 UK Sudoku & Puzzle Championships **

I think the monthly LMI Sudokus are normally pitched to include the final Sunday of the month, aren't they? If so, 18-19 June looks like a safe bet for the Puzzle Cruise - and, of course, it can always be deferred if a high priority contest does end up being held that weekend. If Nick is correct th...

Perhaps you know otherwise, but I'd have thought the LMI sudoku would also very likely fall on this weekend.

Re: UKPA Puzzle Cruise (18-19 June 2011)

Looks fun, but surely these dates will clash with a crucial UKPA qualifying tournament?

Can I ask that this be moved back so that UK competitors are not overloaded with more-than-weekly puzzle contests?
Thanks :)

Re: Any interest in a UK croco-puzzle ladder?

To be honest, I only started the Sudoku because Ronald had a score on the board on his rating of -15 (I presume that means started and didn't finish) and I'm playing him on the ladder. oops! tactical error! :D This is my actually the first puzzle I've started and not finished... I couldn't keep my ...

Re: Reflections on the croco-puzzle ladder?

I'm happy for the league to continue as it is for now. I would observe that guaranteed promotion or relegation is rather a harsh wager. (This perhaps relates to Colin's point) On a 5-3 result (or even a 4-4 tie with tiebreak), one person goes up and one person goes down - leaving them a full 2 match...

Re: croco-puzzle

am finding the masyu interface far more difficult since it's changed.

I had learned to click and drag in a particular way - but that now seems to put lines not quite where I was expecting. :? similar to what drsteve and motris describe.

Re: croco-puzzle

It would be cool and sensible to have a croco-puzzle forum, although I'd have several concerns that might be worth considering: 1) the croco-puzzle threads seem to be doing fine as they are - does change come with a danger of killing the fluid discussion? 2) moving the croco-puzzle threads (particul...

Regarding croco-puzzle:

Nice work DavidMcN! Decisively overtook me on today's Killersudoku to become top UK competitor. (though sf2l still rides a little higher, for the moment!)
But it's not over yet... I hope to have a battle/stay close for some time ;)
