Re: Puzzled Pint in London

I would very much recommend this to anyone who can get there. You'll get several interesting but not overly difficult puzzles and at the same time can enjoy your favourite tipple and chat to like-minded people.

Sadly, I can't be there this month, but I am planning to be there in February.

I should be there this time, but it's likely to be a one-off rather than the start of a regular attendance.

Curious how impressions work. Based particularly on the Kakuro and Akari, I assumed them to be skulls for a Halloween theme. They are nice puzzles, but my performance, like the supposed theme, was horrific.

Re: croco-puzzle

So, I somehow got second prize in last week's Preisrätsel which is a 6-month subscription to Denksel.

I think Denksel gets sent by email as a monthly pdf. Does anyone know if I have to do anything to claim the prize, or does it happen automatically?

Re: UKPA Puzzle Championship 2013

I really enjoyed this contest. I think I solved a lot of puzzles well, but then wasted too much time on Yosenabe (which I finished) and Snake (which I didn't). I've now solved all the puzzles that I hadn't finished (including Snake). There really are a lot of excellent puzzles in there. Congratulati...

Re: Croco-Liga team competition, starting in September 2012

A cursory glance at the 'team ratings' figures tells me us Northeners have a fight on our hands to stay up next season, with only 3 teams technically lower rated than us. Let's see huh? Looking forward to it already. Hmm. A cursory glance at the 'team ratings' figures tells me us Southeners have a ...

We're all sorted. I'm joining a team with Gareth and others. Ken, unfortunately, can't make it.

I could wear a recent WPC t-shirt, though weather might mean it's covered by full-length waterproofs.

Re: DASH 5 puzzle hunt in London on Saturday 25th May

I'm probably going to go to the Saturday meeting. I've emailed the organisers and await their response.

The registration page suggests there's still lots of team spots available (18 at time of posting), so I'm confident we'll still have time to claim a spot.

Re: croco-puzzle

Thanks for the mention dickoon, and your comment about the run-in is spot on. Closing matches for Southern UK are tough: we play the 1st (Slovakia team), 4th (Croco B&H&Gs) and 6th placed teams. Croco B&H&Gs have the equivalent tough run-in, while Team China play the 10th, 13th and 1...

Re: UK Open Sudoku and Puzzle Tournament 16th - 17th March,

I had a great weekend. Lots of really good puzzles and friendly faces, both old and new. I was actually more nervous being Tom's marker in the Sudoku play-off than I was for the competition itself. If anyone was in two minds about attending, I really recommend you come along next year. Congratulatio...

Re: 2012 UK Puzzle Championship (24-27 Aug 2012)

Time for one of the easy ones... Puzzle #3 - Tapa #1 Columns labelled left-right A-H, rows labelled top-bottom 1-8. The cells around the 5 at B8 are all shaded: A7, B7, C7, A8, C8 are shaded. C7 is shaded, so to complete the 1/1/1/1 at D6: C5, E5, E7 are shaded. D5, C6, E6, D7 are blank. The 1/3 at ...

I too spent ages on the Rock-Paper-Scissors puzzle, which looked easy but completely stumped me. That and trying some of the harder puzzles meant I solved nothing in the last 40 minutes. Nevertheless, very enjoyable overall.

Sorry detuned, I wasn't at the races at all last week, and even forgot :!: to do the puzzles on the Monday because I was engrossed in other things. A bye request - I'll be off on Friday and possibly Thursday of next week so I'll need a bye for those. It might help that if a tie-break is necessary, w...

Congratulations to drsteve. That was pretty close.

The puzzle types helped me: my statistics show my top five are Arukone, Sternenhimmel, Koralle, Slalom and Schlange. I would have been beaten more soundly without that I think.

Very close indeed. I lost out on the second Friday puzzle by just 5 seconds (18m 13s to 18m 18s), or just 0.46% more time. That made the difference between a 4-6 loss and a 7-5 extra-time win.

I'm not going to be able to compete next week so I have to cede my match. (Or, I have no objection to dickoon leap-frogging me into the last ladder match.)

I'm also going to miss out on several days of Classic Tapa at LMI.

I'll be back the following week.

Very enjoyable, but two silly solving errors cost me, most notably on the Braille puzzle where 122 points went bye-bye for the sake of a single incorrect cell.
